Careers

Working with us means supporting the movement of machinery through Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town. We hire practical people who can work accurately, keep clients informed and handle time sensitive freight with care.

Why people join our team

Machines Africa Hub is based in Umbilo, Durban, with clearing support for the harbour corridor and inland work through Johannesburg and Cape Town. Our team deals with machinery imports for logistics, fleet and automotive clients, so the work is hands on and tied to real delivery times, customs steps and site access rules.

People join us because they want steady work with clear responsibility. One day you may be checking shipping documents, the next you may be helping track a container through port release or arranging site offloading in Springfield Park, Jet Park or Paarden Eiland. It is practical work and you need to keep your head when deadlines are tight and a client needs answers before close of business.

Roles we often recruit for

We do not publish a running vacancy list here, but we do review CVs for a number of roles across the business. If your experience fits any of these areas, send us your details.

  • Operations and shipping coordination
  • Customs clearing and tariff classification
  • Client service and document control
  • Fleet and inland transport coordination
  • Trade compliance and cargo administration
  • Port collection and site delivery support

Some roles suit people with shipping or freight experience, while others are better for candidates who are organised, methodical and comfortable working with invoices, packing lists, permits and delivery notes. In Durban, we also value people who understand port timing, municipal access rules and how coastal humidity can affect stored equipment.

What the work involves day to day

Our work changes with the shipment, the route and the machine. You may be dealing with import planning for a small consignment, then handling bonded storage or inland transport for a heavier unit the next day. Attention to detail matters because a missing serial number or tariff code can hold up a release.

  • Checking and filing import documents
  • Following up on customs queries and release status
  • Coordinating collection from the port or depot
  • Arranging transport to a customer site
  • Updating clients on timing, charges and handover steps

During load-shedding, outages or peak port congestion, we still keep communication clear and timelines realistic. That means people here need to stay calm, work neatly and keep records in order.

Who fits in well here

We work best with people who are dependable, respectful and comfortable speaking to clients, drivers, clearing agents and suppliers. You do not need to know every process on day one, but you must be willing to learn and to ask the right questions.

  • Good written communication in English
  • Strong admin habits and neat file keeping
  • Comfort with numbers, dates and reference codes
  • Ability to work under pressure without cutting corners
  • Basic understanding of freight, clearing or logistics is an advantage

Because our work covers Durban harbour, Umbilo, Springfield Park, City Deep and Paarden Eiland, candidates should be comfortable with work that moves between office admin and operational follow through. A valid driver’s licence can help for some positions, especially where site visits or collections are involved.

How to send your CV

To be considered when a role opens, send your CV through our contact form. Please include the role area you are best suited to, your current location and a short note on your experience. If you have handled customs clearing, shipping documents, fleet coordination or trade compliance, mention it clearly.

We prefer CVs that are easy to read and include contactable references. If you have worked in Durban, Johannesburg or Cape Town freight corridors, say so. For hands on roles, include any machinery, logistics or transport experience, even if it was project based or through contract work.

What happens after you apply

We review applications against current and upcoming operational needs. If your background matches a role we are hiring for, a member of the team may contact you for an interview or to ask for more detail. If there is no immediate opening, we keep suitable CVs on file for future consideration.

Our hiring process is straightforward. We look for people who can work accurately, communicate properly and support the client without fuss. That matters whether the job is in the office, at the port or on site at delivery.
